Austin Court - Job Opportunity - Events Assistant

Overall responsibility for delivering event catering for bookings taking place in and around the venue. Responsible for the preparation, delivery and clearing down of all refreshments in the meeting room areas.
Cover Reception and Sales office as and when required. Main responsibilities to include answering telephone calls, taking messages, directing clients, taking booking enquiries, payments etc.

Hours:                        37.5 hours per week, 5 days over 7 exclusive of meal breaks, plus as many as required to fulfil the needs of the post

Salary:                        Band A

Main Duties and Responsibilities (not necessarily in priority order)

  • To prepare, deliver and serve refreshments for events.
  • To clear rooms of catering and relay after refreshment breaks.
  • To wash and store all china, cutlery and glassware.
  • All kitchen equipment is maintained and cleaned to the required standard of cleanliness.
  • To maintain records of stock; dry stores and equipment; reordering of stock when required.
  • To maintain a kitchen inventory.
  • To work unsupervised and prioritise own workload; liaise with Venue Manager regarding weekly catering staff rota.
  • To liaise with contract caterer on site.
  • To work and ensure all reports work towards the agreed IET C&B working standards.
  • To assist the Venue Manager in ensuring all customer requirements are fully met.
  • Provide cover for Reception desk & Sales office as and when required.
  • Answering telephone calls, taking booking enquiries, taking payments, assisting clients etc.
  • To undertake any other duties and projects as requested by the Venue Manager.
  • To comply with data protection legislation and act responsibly on matters of data disclosure both internally and to third parties.
  • To be familiar with the IET Health and Safety and Fire policies for the company and to attend mandatory updates where required.
  • To deal with customer complaints and escalate esponse accordingly.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of working face to face with customers in a catering/hospitatlity environment.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must be comfortable working front-of-house and directly with customers.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised and show initiative.
  • Must have basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Must be prepared to work hours to suit the busy periods of the business.
  • Understand the basics of food hygiene and allergens

Desirable Criteria:

  • Current Basic Food & Hygiene Certificate.
  • Reception / Sales office - Experience
